CARE OPTIONS FOR ANIMALS
Available and affordable healthcare is not just a human issue. Understanding the challenges of both pet parents and vulnerable animals in need is central to our mission.
Animals are not getting routine, preventative, or life-saving care to treat unexpected illnesses or injuries. Pet parents are feeling an increased sense of helplessness and desperation to provide for their pet’s needs.
While animal healthcare faces many obstacles, we can overcome them with innovative solutions that provide relief to animals and the humans who love them.
Traditional
Pet Insurance
Current pet insurance plans are limiting. Traditional plans require upfront payment for services, then reimburse later (minus deductible and copay). These plans also require policies for individual pets, which becomes costly. Non-reimbursement plans require applying for a line of credit, which might not be an option for some.
Pet Health Maintenance
To date, there are few healthcare options that help pet parents avoid costly procedures. Plans that incentivize preventative care for pets usually require monthly subscriptions for each pet. These can range from $300-$600/yr for basic cat or dog care. Plans that include preventative screenings can be up to $1100-$1300/yr. Unfortunately, these plans do not cover emergency care, specialized imaging or diagnostic procedures, treatments with specialists, or surgery.
Low-Cost Options
Free or low-cost healthcare options offered by animal welfare clinics can be difficult to access due to limited availability of services. Staff shortages, space concerns, or funding constraints result in long waits to schedule or receive services. Such limitations can render low-cost clinics powerless to serve the full communities that need them.
Aid For Strays
There is limited assistance for homeless animals whose lives often depend on the empathy and kindness of human intervention, and whose health directly affects the community in which they live.
